End-Of-Year post

It is the end of another year. And one that was full of challenges and change and adventure.

We went to Greece, Cambodia and Vietnam. We took up almost a third of the Cats Of The World exhibition with our photos (myself, Lawrence, Nightmare, Leong, YG...). And at IPA, a sweep of 4 different categories/genres (Fine Art, Editorial, Nature, Architectural categories). All that speaks volumes of the diverse capability of our organisers and our members.

There have also been departures and new arrivals. Sumomo has left to pursue the equipment-oriented path and hopefully, focus her life instead of jealousy. CBK has also decided to go and join a bunch of kids to pursue gadgets rather than photos. JK has decided to get serious in photography and is improving. And we've got a new spin-off in a regional grouping (see forum/Facebook). The Meow-Lovers' are also back in force, with our gathering last night having 10 participants (7 ladies!), we welcome them all!

Outings-wise, the AG Outings are now more focused on 3 types :-
1. Numbered AGs. These are the original outings, slated for every 4-5 weeks.
2. Random outings. These are generic, open-to-all outings, approx once-a-month.
3. Newbie outings. These are the easiest, light-and-short outings, runs monthly.
(2) and (3) usually alternate.

Work-wise, the first 9 months have been tough. But we've been fortunate to be blessed with steadfast and good people and support. And the radical decision to spend on a costly Greece trip (yes spend, when everyone was cutting back) has led to benefits that are beginning to show. For our core PAs - Calvin, KF, YC and Ches, my heartfelt thanks for standing by me.

For 2010, my best wishes to the one pursuing his SYPA (*winks*). For Adrian, all the best in your 'O's. For JK, "You Can Do It!". For Nam, hope you can get out of your shell. For Jacq, it'll be a better year! For all our members and supporters, make it wonderful!

Happy New Year to one and all!

Barely into 2009 and we'd already had 2 AG outings! This year will see several changes. Despite that economic downturn, Photonx is expanding. The AG Outings format will remain though, and we'll continue to have regular outings, and share our knowledge amongst our healthy circles.

Looking back at 2008, it has been a very tumultous and exciting year. The introduction of the new format outings, and the very private and highly-sought-after AG-Cos took up a lot of our attention in the early half. The much-debated-about decision to move our outings out of CS was a wise move, considering how much more crap cropped up in there afterward. The opening of Tiong Bahru forum for our extended community gave us a platform to run free of the troublemakers. The subsequent get-togethers bonded our community even closer.

Our little forum board in Tiong Bahru (http://tiongbahru.org/) is happily running along now, with a large proportion of active members and a lot of activity. We have our several-times-a-week group MSN sessions, the LOs are coming back, and of course, AG-Cos! If you are not already amongst us, you've been missing a lot. Register yourself, give around 24 hours for the Admin scripts to work and you'll get access!

Hope to see you onboard!

AG Cos 2008

2008 had been a really good year for AG Cos. We had 19 sessions of AG Cos, with a selection of characters from D Gray Man, FFAC/FF13, Death Note, Darker than Black, Gundam 00, Kuroshitsuji, Vocaloid and Macross Frontier. We work with the cosplayers actively on each project to achieve the best results for every shoot. We also keep ourselves updated on the latest cosplay trend by following anime productions, research on cosplay photography through overseas cosplay magazines, shooting at all local cosplay events (SOY, Cosfest, Coscon, AFA etc) and even a research trip to Tokyo Japan to keep tab on the latest cosplay trend.

The AG Cos Special in Tokyo on 14 Dec 2008 was a planned trip as part of our works for AG Cos series. The coverage of the event was an interesting experience for us and we hope to leverage on the experience to bring to all higher quality of photos for our cosplayer friends.

Here are some photos to share. We would like to thank all cosplayers who had worked wih us in 2008! Looking forward to more great cosplay shoots in 2009!

News from Azure

Seasons greetings to everyone visiting this blog!

2008 has been a great year. At work, it's been beyond expectations. Our students have achieved wins and honorable mentions on both local and international stage.

AG Outings has also transformed into delivering quality and learning to our participants. In Jan 08 we started out with our AG-Cos outings. The raising of the bar for local cosplay photography has led to our cosplayer friends enjoying superior pictures, and a new standard in how such sessions are conducted. Of course, it has also led to jealousy from certain individuals, yet they have us to thank for forcing up their standards in this arena.
(Kudos to Sumomo for getting her cosplay photos into the Ngee Ann Photographic Exhibition!)

The mainstream AG Outings are now streamlined back to the original small-and-cozy form (3-5 pax). Seeing how our participants really gain and grow in their pictures since Jun 08, it shows. Plus our low-key AG to Bali has produced a lot of high-grade photos, including IR ones! With the end of 2008 coming, our AG Outings have also broken out 3 white routes (ie, never-before-visited/known routes). And we've concluded a series of studio sessions on lighting, PhotoShop techniques and more, that's how far our LOs have gone!

One key thing - AG Outings and our little community is all about clean, honest learning and growth. We have our share of shoots of human subjects, but it is always positioned on the clean, beautiful side. And for that alone, we are thankful to be dis-associated with forums like CS. The very basis of our shoots and outings is that we always have a "mentor" present to guide newcomers in getting proper shots. And keep away those sleazebags and questionable characters.

As we move into 2009, our parent Photonx will become more focused as a network for the good people we'd built up over the years. Our open community at TiongBahru.Org features the bulk of our AG Outings, as well as several other community groups. The new year ahead will see a number of exciting developments too, as Photonx takes to new heights with our new team, and our community continue to grow as a big circle of wonderful friends, enthusiasts, photographers, cosplayers and foodies!

To a great 2009!

Yet another accolade for our AG founder, Azure!

Azure's works had been published in Mapletree's Vivio City Coffee Table book! This coffee-table book features works of photographers who had taken part in the Vivio City: My Place, My Vivio Moments Photography Competition. Only selected, high quality photographs were featured in this special launch of coffee table book by Mapletree, developer of Vivio City, which will be on sale at PAGEONE bookstore after today's launch at Vivio City.

Appreciation

2008 is sure a good year for Photonx and Tiong Bahru.org. Special thanks to all my friends from the 2 forums for their encouragements!

Apart from the various awards that Photonx members had clinched, our AG outings are well- received by our members, old and new. Our "Any-thing Goes" concept allows our members opportunities to explore different forms of photography, ranging from landscape, portraiture, to macro and IRs. We are in fact proud to say that you won't be able to find another group of photographers who are as exposed and diversed in their level of photography.

Looking forward, do expect more high quality AG outings, check out our blog regularly for updates!
